Safety & Care Guide

At Rove Cord, the safety and well-being of you and your furry companion are our highest priorities. Our handcrafted gear and DIY kits are designed for everyday adventures, but proper usage, inspection, and care are essential to ensure long-lasting durability and safety.

Daily Inspection & Wear Guidelines

  • Inspect Before Every Walk: Before heading out, always examine the leash, collar, clips, and hardware for any signs of wear, fraying, loose stitching, or structural damage.
  • Check Clasps & Hardware: Ensure all swivel snaps, carabiners, and buckle mechanisms close securely and spring back smoothly. If a clip sticks or fails to lock completely, discontinue use immediately.
  • Not Chew-Proof: No fabric, rope, or paracord is completely indestructible against sharp pet teeth. Do not allow your pet to chew on leashes or collars, and store gear out of reach when not in use.

Proper Fit & Everyday Use

  • Two-Finger Rule: For collars, ensure a snug but comfortable fit. You should be able to slide two fingers comfortably between the collar and your dog's neck.
  • Supervised Use Only: Never leave leashes, long lines, or specialty gear attached to an unattended pet, especially inside a crate or vehicle where tangling can occur.
  • Pulling & High-Impact Dogs: If your dog is an intense puller or prone to reactive lunges, regularly check stress points along the cord and hardware connections.

DIY Kits & Handcrafted Assembly Safety

  • Double-Check All Knots & Weaves: If you assembled your gear from a Rove Cord DIY kit, ensure all terminal knots, melted ends, and braids are securely tightened and properly finished before first use.
  • Perform a Pull Test: Always test newly finished DIY projects with firm manual tension in a safe indoor environment before using them outdoors with your pet.

Care & Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Hand wash in lukewarm water with mild, pet-safe soap. Rinse thoroughly and allow to air dry completely away from direct heat sources.
  • Saltwater & Mud: Rinse gear with fresh water after exposure to sand, saltwater, or heavy mud to prevent debris from clogging hardware springs or abrasive sand from wearing down cord fibers.
